Scarf Sung Blue: In summer 2018, artist and designer Patricia Vega started using plants from her garden in Mansfield as the star of her Bohemian in Blue silk scarf collection. She applies the botanical materials to silk scarves coated with a cyanotype emulsion and exposes them to sunlight, resulting in rich Prussian blue patterns that reflect the tranquility of her surroundings.
“There’s something magical about this monochromatic effect that makes your eye wander, and find beauty and peace through the powerful colour,” she says. Click here

Artist-in-Residence
NODO Uspallata, Mendoza Argentina - April, 2022
In April 2022, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in an artist-in-residence program at Nodo Uspallata, nestled in the stunning mountains of Mendoza, Argentina. This experience was a deeply enriching journey that allowed me to experiment with the cyanotype process in an environment that seemed almost tailor-made for creative exploration.
Nodo Uspallata is a special place, tucked away in a valley surrounded by the majestic Andes. As an artist, there could be no better place to immerse myself in the cyanotype process, a photographic printing method that relies on the power of sunlight to create vivid, cyan-blue prints. Here, the intensity of the Mendoza sun, combined with the rugged, wild beauty of the mountains, provided a perfect backdrop for my work.
One of the aspects that drew me to Nodo Uspallata was its location surrounded by mountains, and unique flora, the landscape offered a wealth of inspiration for my cyanotype experiments. The interaction between intense sunlight, the emulsion, and the plants of the area produced stunning, ethereal results. Each piece seemed to capture a moment of connection between the natural world and the photographic process itself.
In addition to the flora, I also experimented with transparent materials, such as glass, to explore the contrast between the organic and the man-made. These materials allowed light to pass through, creating interesting layering effects in the final prints. The transparency of glass, combined with the shadows cast by the plants, produced magical results that felt both delicate and powerful at the same time.
Each piece becomes a testament to the deep connection between art and nature.
My time at Nodo Uspallata was a transformative artistic experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work in such a remarkable place.
As an artist, I couldn't have asked for a better environment to explore and expand my craft, and I look forward to carrying the memories and lessons from this residency into my future projects. If you're ever looking for a place where creativity and nature meet, Nodo Uspallata is a true hidden gem—a place where the sun always shines and the possibilities for artistic discovery are endless.
